Thanks to you, we're one step closer to a cancer free future!

1 in 2 Australian's will be diagnosed with cancer by the age of 85. Your support will help us change this terrible statistic.
Every dollar raised will help Cancer Council SA invest in ground-breaking cancer research, empower people to reduce their own risk with prevention education, and provide essential support to everyone impacted by cancer.

Today, you can help Cancer Council SA work towards a cancer free future by supporting me in the Marilyn Jetty Swim. It is sure to be an unforgettable challenge that I will remember forever.

Thank you for your support

My Updates

My ‘Why’ - why am I dressing up like Marilyn, swimming round a jetty and making a fool of myself?

Wednesday 13th Dec
I’m really excited to participate in this event for the first time! While my first response to the idea was, “OMG NO WAY will I ever wear a WHITE bathing suit in PUBLIC!” I got over that quickly when I realized I could make a difference and raise money for an incredibly worthy cause while having a huge amount of fun with so many other amazing people.

I wanted to find a way to do something to make a difference, no matter how small, and also acknowledge the many many people in my world whose lives have been touched or taken by cancer. Most recently, my second cousin Michael (who was more a brother to my mum and uncle) and his beautiful wife Margaret were lost to cancer last year, 9 months apart. When someone who has always been a part of your life, especially when they are as wonderful as this couple, leaves this world, you can’t help asking why. All I wanted to do was to hug my mum, my uncle, and Michael and Margaret’s three daughters, and all who were affected by their passing. I felt powerless and wanted to do something to honor them, as I felt like I couldn’t do anything to change the grief felt by their family and friends.

My mother has also battled cancer and won three times. I’ve seen first hand the heroism, stoicism, and selflessness that people on that journey can display, while also knowing that every battle and context is individual. I’m doing this for everyone who is battling now, or has battled, no matter what the outcome and no matter what the attitude. I just want to do something to champion these people, and make a difference in some small way.

Both my grandfathers, Alan and George, also lost their respective battles with cancer before I could know them; Alan (Pop) before I was born, and George (Grandpa) when I was too young to remember him. Cancer robbed me of my chance to have a living relationship with these amazing men, whose legacies live on in the love-filled stories told by their children. If donations might improve medical outcomes, access to resources, support for those making difficult decisions about treatment, or increase the potential for kids to know their parents, grandkids to know their grandparents… how could I not want to do something to help raise these funds?

So yeah - if I can make a difference by looking like a fool and getting wet, I’m all for it.

Help me make a difference!
