Is the swim hard?
The Marilyn Jetty Swim is a crowd favourite, and part of the Channel 7 Brighton Jetty Classic swim carnival.
The Marilyn Jetty Swim prides itself in being inclusive of all people, regardless of swimming ability. Obviously, basic swimming skills to paddle the 400m distance around Brighton Jetty are required – it is certainly not a race, so we take our time and do it all with style and grace.
From when we first step onto the sand to completion it is about 30 minutes (maximum) but the actual swim is roughly 15-20 minutes. It is so much fun you won’t even realise!
Surf Life Savers are on patrol during the event, wearing the distinctive yellow and red SLSA Surf Rescue Cap and Uniform. They are there to provide assistance as needed and are more than willing to help our group of blonde bombshells and assist anyone unable to complete the swim on their own —in fact some Marilyn’s have been spotted on the back of jet-ski’s in the past!
John Cvetko, Chair of the Channel 7 Brighton Jetty Classic shares more information about the support you’ll receive in the water:
